1. PTT(textile & engineering)
About 80% of PDO is used to synthetic new polyester fibers - PTT (polytrimethylene
terephthalate polymer). This fiber has excellent comprehensive
properties, and the yarn made by melt spinning is widely used in all kinds of
upscale clothing fabrics and carpets, and the market prospect is very broad.
The PTT synthesized by PDO also has excellent
comprehensive properties and partially replaces
PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) and PET (polyethylene
terephthalate) as engineering plastics or films
with better performance.
2. Personal Care
1,3-Propanediol is mainly used as a solvent in cosmetics, which is an organic
polyol moisturizing solvent, which helps cosmetic ingredients penetrate into
the skin and is used in cosmetics with certain synergistic antiseptic effects. It
possesses tronger moisturising properties than glycerin, 1,2-propanediol
without any viscosity, burning sensation, or sensitive irrigation problems. PDO
is also used as a viscosity control agent.
3. Pharmaceutical intermediates
1,3-Propanediol is used in pharmaceutical intermediates such as the synthesis
of sibutramine (active ingredient of trimethoprim and cortisol), vitamin-H
(biotin), 1,3-dibromopropane, 3-bromo-1-propanol, 1,3-dichloropropane and
as a carbon chain extender for pharmaceutical products, with a market volume
of between 2000 and 2500 tons.
4. Other areas
In addition to the above applications, 1,3-propanediol can also be used to
prepare other unsaturated polyesters, such as propylene naphthalene dicarboxylate
(PTN) and copolyester, in addition to new polyurethane resins, emulsifiers,
etc.
